The Quality Control Council of Canada (QCC) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Lance Yearley Scholarship, with awards of up to $2,500 available.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • A dependent child of a QCC member in good standing
  • Graduating high school in 2026
  • Entering their first year of a diploma or degree program at an accredited post-secondary institution in Fall 2026
  • Please note: This scholarship is available exclusively to QCC member families.

Important Notice

Register Now: EPRI Rigging Certification Course

The Alberta Pipe Trades College is offering the EPRI Rigging Certification Course from June 8-12, 2026, at the Local 488 Training Centre in Edmonton. Designed for experienced UA journeypersons, this advanced course provides specialized training in safe rigging practices and the skills required to work as certified rigging specialists.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of industry best practices, safety requirements, and the complexities involved in rigging operations within industrial environments. A strong rigging background and a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience are required.

Space is limited. To register, contact Alberta Pipe Trades College at 780-488-1266. The course fee is $60.

Alberta Pipe Trades College Hiring – Shop Technician

The Alberta Pipe Trades College (APTC) is currently seeking applications for the position of Shop Technician.

This full-time position supports the daily operation of the college’s classrooms, shops, shipping and receiving, purchasing, and facility organization. We are looking for a self-motivated, highly organized individual with strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work independently.

Red Seal Journeyperson certification is required, with preference given to candidates holding multiple Red Seal certifications.

Welding Instructor Position Open at APTC

The Alberta Pipe Trades College is responsive to the educational needs of the construction and maintenance sector throughout Alberta. The school is comprised of dedicated and innovative staff committed to the success of their students.

The Alberta Pipe Trades College apprenticeship program has a need for a full-time welder instructor to present course material in the welding discipline.

Candidates for this position should be energetic leaders, have sound verbal and written communication skills, be committed to student motivation and achievement, and be oriented toward student success.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present lessons, lectures and demonstrations to apprenticeship students.
  • Demonstrate procedures and supervise practical shop assignments. Prepare, administer and grade assignments and examinations.
  • Maintain student attendance, progress data and records.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program reviews and course reviews.
  • Manage instructional delivery and set the tone and climate for a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Other related duties such as development of new instructional material and maintenance of instructional equipment.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Completion of Alberta Journeyman or Inter-Provincial Red Seal
  • Have an Alberta B-Pressure Welders Qualification (or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience welding in the pressure vessel and piping industry would be a definite asset
  • Must be proficient with the following welding processes: SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, AOC/AOW and SAW
  • Familiarity with computers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Remuneration:

Salary will commensurate with education and experience plus ICI benefit package
