With the constant unfolding of the Corona virus and its effects, Local 488’s number one goal is to protect our employees, members and their families by limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our workplace. Three employees including myself returned from Phoenix on Friday March 13 from the National Pipeline conference, while a fourth employee returned from holidays out of country. In keeping with Local 488’s values and adhering to Alberta Health’s recommendations we will be self-quarantined for 14 days and working remotely from home.

Our main office, as well as the Fort McMurray office will be closed to the public but will remain open to office personal only. All services will be provided by email, phone, or the website. We will do our best to ensure you have access to all critical services the local offers.

As a precautionary measure Local 488 has cancelled all non-essential events at this time. We have postponed our long service awards and will reschedule our March 21 Union meeting to a later date.

The weld Test Center is no longer open in the evenings. The new hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm. Only welders with dispatch slips will be allowed to use our facility to test.

Alberta Pipe Trade College has cancelled all courses including safety training until future notice.

Management will be in contact daily to discuss necessary changes and keep members informed of these changes via our web site. We are taking our lead from the World Health Organization The Alberta Pipe Trade College has postponed all courses, however, safety training will continue at Touchback Safety.
