Please see the attached document for important information regarding the Shell Scotford site.
This notice is to inform you, one of Local 488’s signatory contractors lost a portion of work to a non-union contractor (AECOM) at the Shell Scotford site.
SEC. 195. (a) of our constitution states ‘A member shall not perform any work for any contractor whose business performs work that comes within the work jurisdiction of the United Association/ if that employer is not a party to a collective bargaining agreement entered into either by a UA Local Union or the United Association.’
I will repeat, members who work for non-union employers are subject to disciplinary action.
September 30th – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The UA Canadian office and Local 488 support the Indigenous Communities across Canada and recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
Please, use this day for reflection, education, or participation in a community event to acknowledge the history of residential schools, honor the survivors, their families, and their communities. Take this day to learn something new about Indigenous culture, and how the residential school system has impacted communities, heritage, and way of life.
Massive congratulations to our very own Tyler Hayward for winning the John Tackaberry Future Leaders Award at the Building Trades of Alberta conference yesterday! Tyler is a 3rd year HVAC apprentice with Gateway Mechanical who embodies every value the UA represents- quality, production, safety, and of course, outstanding leadership! Way to go Tyler, we are extremely proud of your accomplishment!
